Carmona Ecology Center

Area: Approximately 1 hectare

Location: Brgy. Lantic Carmona, Cavite

Solid Waste Management Program

* The Carmona Sanitary Landfill

-The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) made the Carmona Sanitary Landfill as its dumping site from June 1993 to March 1998.

-Anticipating the possibility of extension/ renewal of contract, the Local Government moved for the closure of the Carmona Sanitary Landfill capitalizing on the public clamor and deviations from the agreement made by MMDA despite the 2 remaining years.

-With the imminent closure of the Carmona Sanitary Landfill, the Local Government through the Sangguniang Bayan created the Municipal Environment & Natural Resources Office (MENRO) on September 1997.

Program Results

* 25% – 30% of garbage composted (biodegradable)

* 15% of garbage redeemed (recyclable)

* Reduction of residual garbage from 80 – 100 truck loads per week to 50 – 60 truck loads per week

* Provided additional source of livelihood for selected sectors like Senior Citizens, jail inmates, Women

* Carmona was awarded as the “Cleanest & Greenest

* Municipality in the Province of Cavite for Year 2000 & 2001

* Finalist to the “Gawad Pangulo Para sa Kalikasan 2000”
